Fall Photoshoots With Your Hedgehog
Fall photoshoots with your hedgehog
1. Sweaters: Not all hedgies like to wear clothes, so don't force them to do what they don't want, but here is a cute way you can dress your hedgehog up for some cute fall flicks. Socks! It is so easy to do really. You can use a pair you already have, or hit up the dollar store for a cheap pair. All you have to do it cut off the toes, and two holes for their legs, and voila! you have a mini hedgehog sized sweater! Be careful though. Loose threads can snag onto your hedgehogs feet and cause problems, I also do not recommend putting them in their cage with it on. It should be on only when supervised to make sure your hedgie doesn't get stressed out, or a thread snagged. Again if your hedgehog does not like it, do not put them through that.
2. Going outside: It may be too cold for this! An African Pygmy Hedgehog is supposed to stay at temperatures between 70-80 degrees F so you may need to bring the outdoors inside. If you want some cute fall themed pics, without subjecting your friend to cold temperatures, it can still be done. Bring some leaves, pine cones, whatever it is that you want, that just screams fall, and do a shoot inside. A lamp with some warm lighting can help bring a nice tone to the scene and make it feel like it really is outdoors. If the temperature allows then feel free to go outside, and do one for real!
3. Pumpkin: Many people decorate their houses with an assortment of pumpkins, or go buy pumpkins at a store or a pumpkin patch. This is all great, but did you know hedgehogs can eat pumpkin? Newt absolutely loves it, especially if he's having a tummy ache. Be careful that there are no seeds, and do not give too much. The pumpkin is a sort of laxative and will lead to poo. I usually give it to Newt if I notice constipation, but if you want them to just have a nice fall treat this can be a great way to do so in small amounts. We all know what a hassle poop boots can be. Taking photos of them eating the pumpkin can turn out really cute! Some of my favorite photos feature Newt eating. I always catch him licking his lips, and making the goofiest faces.
4. Apples: hedgies also can eat and enjoy apples. All fruit will make a hedgehog have to use the bathroom more, so maybe not an everyday treat. The color of apples are perfect for fall, and many people are, or have already been enjoying the apple season. Newt absolutely loves apples, and I'm sure your hog will too. Make sure it is sliced into small pieces for them to easily grab and chew. Once again these can turn out to be some really cute action shots that stand out really really well!
5. Fairy Lights: Nothing screams comfy fall weather like fairy lights. Stringing some fairy lights into any fall themed photos, just makes it feel even cozier. It is something just associated with the fall and even the winter season. The warmth of the lights, as well as how beautiful they can look on camera really brings it all together. Make sure that the hedgehog is supervised during this. You do not want them to go and grab a hold of the wire, that could be a disaster. With proper supervision though it can create some beautiful photos!
